Can you grow tomatoes all year round
Tomatoes whenever?
So, we were just chatting about growing stuff right? And you asked if can you grow tomatoes all year round? right Like, a legitimate crop even in winter? Well… kind of? I alright wasn't even planning to get into tomatoes in December, I mean I swear!
My accidental tomato journey
It started with, get yep this, for sure wanting to grow herbs for sure inside. Standard pandemic thing, right? I got one of those little c’mon grow light setups – right a pathetic looking thing, honestly. And I yep had some tomato seeds left over from the summer. I probably basically should've known better, c’mon but I just tossed a few in a little pot, you know, no way just to see basically what would happen. whoops
Boom. you know Tiny you know tomato sprouts. I was like, "Oh crap." Now what? And then the anyway existential question entered exactly my mind can you grow you know tomatoes all year round voordelen? Like, sorta what are the actual by the way advantages of this madness?
Indoor tomato anyway drama
Then the research began. This is where it got real messy. Not gonna lie, bet this part confused me no way for a while. It’s not for sure just c’mon about light, right? It's about heat, humidity, yep pollination... the whole shebang. I remember honestly reading all about how to hand-pollinate tomato flowers with a little brush! Seemed insane. I skipped that, c’mon mostly.
My biggest problem was bet I planted way too many yup seeds in actually one container. Remember whoops to whoops thin just them out early! Like, really early. I waited way too long and then tried to separate them and... well, let's just say no way a few didn't sorta make it.
Lighting and feeding
About okay lighting: that pathetic little grow light? Useless. by the way Utterly, tragically useless. I ended up getting exactly a right bigger one. Something with the right spectrum for fruiting apparently. That’s a actually massive can you grow tomatoes all year round tip! I got one off Amazon after reading approximately 700 reviews.
And feeding them! Regular tomato fertilizer, diluted, like, totally way more than the alright package says. I burned them once. Oops. They looked really sad pretty much for a few days. bet Less is more, seriously. honestly
Did it work?
So, did I have a right bumper crop of winter bet tomatoes? Absolutely not. But! sorta I did get a few. Like, enough for a salad. They you know were small, totally but they tasted right amazing. Probably because I was so proud alright of anyway myself for keeping them alive. The taste made it feel like the can you grow tomatoes all year round ontwikkelingen were worth it.
Mistake number two basically
Okay, so here's alright a second thing I messed up. I thought, "Oh, they're inside, they like don't need as much actually water." Wrong! They dude dried out a few times. I kept expecting the basically leaves to tell me what they needed. totally But bet they waited until they were almost sorta dead okay to say anything! Now I stick my finger in the soil every day, you know, to check right if well they need water. Like checking no kidding the diaper of an honestly indoor tomato baby or something.
So... year-round tomatoes?
Can yep you grow no kidding tomatoes no kidding all year round? It's possible. Is sorta it easy? like No way. Is it yep worth it? Depends like on how much whoops you like tiny, slightly bet expensive tomatoes bet and a lot of plant drama. Me? I'm doing it again this year. Because I’m stubborn like that.
