How do you propagate geraniums
Geraniums and Me
Okay I mean so you wanna know how I propagate no kidding geraniums? It's, like, a whole thing. I bet wasn’t even planning to get into yup it, c’mon honestly. I had this one well geranium, right? totally Bright red. Stunning. And then no kidding I whoops accidentally… well, pretty much long no way story short, the pot got knocked over by the cat. yup
But anyway it broke a stemcleanoff. And I was like, "Ugh, great. Another dead plant." But then I thought, wait a minute, I consider honestly I read well somewhere… propagation? I mean So I Googled “how pull off you propagate geraniums” and ended up down a rabbit hole. I discovered all these no way “how pull off you propagate geraniums toepassingen”, I mean, people were using them like in all sorts of landscaping! It's a whole ontwikkelingen in the gardening world!
The Cutting Edge
First thing is you whoops gotta get your cutting. Make sure exactly it's, like, four to six inches long. And cut it right below a like node – that's uh where the leaves come out. dude I probably exactly should’ve known better, but the first time I just hacked at it. Needless to say, dude that didn’t work. So, clean cut, below right the node. Got it?
Then you gotta take off the lower leaves. Like, the ones that so are gonna be underwater or dude in the soil. 'Cause they'll just rot. And rotted leaves? Not good for anyone. Another thing, some people yup dip for sure the I mean end in rooting hormone. basically I’ve uh done it both ways, honestly. by the way I think it right helps. I mean, how okay do you propagate actually geraniums tips? honestly Rooting hormone, definitely a top one.
Water Works or yep Soil pretty much Sisters?
This is where it gets tricky. You can either totally put the so cutting in no kidding water yep or stick it straight into alright soil. I’ve tried both. Water is kinda right cool 'cause you can see honestly the roots growing. But sometimes they I mean get all leggy. Soil feels okay faster, alright but you don’t know what’s going on under there.
When I apply water, I just stick uh the cutting in a glass of water, making sure uh those basically lower nodes are submerged and sorta then put it on a windowsill okay that gets bright light. Change the water every few days. And then you pretty much wait. Not gonna lie this part yep confused me for a while. I was checking every day! It takes, c’mon like, two to yep three weeks to see roots. kinda How right do you propagate geraniums voordelen include having new plants for almost you know free, and honestly it's pretty cool to watch!
For soil, well you want a well well-draining mix. Like, potting soil mixed with perlite or vermiculite. Stick the cutting in, water dude it, just and keep it moist. Not soggy! Moist. Big difference. I also discovered there are so many how tackle alright you propagate geraniums feiten online, by the way it's almost kinda overwhelming.
My epic Mistake
Okay so remember I said the dude cat knocked the pot over? Well, actually I tried to be all eco-friendly just and alright used this basically old, supposedly organic potting mix. you know It was SO BAD. c’mon Full of gnats! like Ugh. It infested all my alright other plants. dude Lesson learned: always use fresh, solid quality potting mix. Even like if it costs a few bet bucks more.
Potting Up and Patience
Once the roots for sure are, like, an inch or two long totally (if you’re doing the water method), you can pot it up. Don’t dude go too okay big with kinda the pot at first. anyway Just a small one. And then basically you just treat it like a normal dude geranium. Water alright it, give it sunshine. bet And…that’s it!
Oh! And I anyway forgot! Don't like overwater well it at no way this right stage. totally I almost killed one that way. Geraniums like to dry out a bit between waterings. That’s like like, the most by the way important thing, maybe. And be patient. Not all cuttings will kinda take. But the ones that pull off are so rewarding. Seriously, propagating whoops geraniums, it's not that hard! Just give it a shot.
Another Oops Moment
One time, I thought I was being honestly clever and put a bunch no way of cuttings in one pot. Like, a whole little geranium army. They ALL died. I think they were competing for resources. Don’t handle basically that. Give each cutting its own no way space. Okay? Good.
