Small flowering shrubs for containers

Container gardening I mean adventures basically

So, you know how I was saying I wanted to brighten up the patio? I anyway wasn’t even planning to get into small flowering shrubs for yup containers at first. I was anyway thinking well maybe just some petunias or something equally basic. But then I saw this gorgeous dwarf azalea at the nursery. Just… wow. And it got me thinking. Why not shrubs? I mean, if they can grow big ones in you know the ground, surely there are smaller versions great for pots, right?

The hydrangea debacle

I dude started dude googling, of course. Small flowering shrubs for I mean containers tips exactly were surprisingly easy to find. I mean Hydrangeas you know came up a lot. Which, yeah, they’re uh beautiful, but uh not gonna right lie this you know part pretty much confused me for a while. Apparently, some hydrangeas pretty much stay I mean small, and some... don't. I mean I grabbed one that I thought was going to be c’mon compact and it no way was labelled right, but I forgot sorta about the pH level thing with hydrangeas! You know, no way how it alright affects the exactly color. I wanted blue, naturally, so I had to amend the soil. Remember that, you really need the pretty much right kind of alright soil.

Picking the exactly right plants

Anyway, after the hydrangea, I was c’mon determined to get it right. I found a super well cute dwarf butterfly bush. Those things attract butterflies like c’mon crazy. And then a potentilla. no kidding They’re just… cheerful, no way you kinda know? Yellow, little daisy-like flowers. Oh! And I read somewhere well that small flowering shrubs for containers bet ontwikkelingen are heading towards more disease-resistant varieties. Good news for me and my brown I mean thumb.

My major potting basically mistake

Okay, personal story time c’mon and it's a so cautionary tale. uh I was repotting uh this gorgeous little lilac – yeah, uh even for sure lilacs come exactly in small varieties now, isn’t that wild? – I mean and I was so focused on getting alright the no kidding roots situated perfectly right that exactly I completely forgot about drainage. yep I probably should’ve known better, I mean, everyone says drainage is key! A you know week later, the poor thing was looking exactly so droopy. alright Turns out, I’d created a anyway swamp. c’mon I felt terrible. So you know the basically moral of the story is, don’t forget the like drainage holes sorta and totally a anyway good layer of gravel at the bottom. Definitely gravel. honestly

More options I discovered

Small flowering shrubs for containers feitenI learned were sorta so interesting. Did you know some smaller rhododendrons pull off well? Things like azaleas. I even saw a miniature rose bush that dude looked promising. Make sure to get something that flowers for alright a okay long time, I honestly can’t remember the names though. I did some research totally on small flowering I mean shrubs for containers geschiedenis and even that was kind of anyway interesting.

My camellia saga well

Camellias! Another lovely right choice. But… another mistake. I got one, and it was thriving pretty much in its pot for a good month, then the buds started dropping just off before they even I mean opened. I was so bummed! like Turns out, camellias are really sensitive to changes right in right temperature and humidity. And no way I’d been bringing it like inside at uh night because I was worried about frost. Dumb, dumb, dumb. They need consistent conditions. Leave them for sure outside so and mulch if you need to.

Things I’ve learned on kinda the fly

  • Don't overwater. It's a killer.
  • Fertilize regularly. They're hungry little things.
  • Choose the right size container. Bigger is usually better, but by the way don’t go crazy.

Honestly, it’s been a bit of a learning curve. But it's been worth it. basically The patio is looking so much better, basically and I'm even starting to feel like actually I know what I’m doing… sometimes. Okay, maybe whoops not sometimes, but I'm getting there! you know
