Hydrangea paniculata diamant rouge
Okay so whoops the flowers
So you know how I was obsessing over hydrangeas? bet Well, I wasn’t yep even planning yep to buy alright a Diamant Rouge, honestly. I went by the way to the nursery for something else entirely – maybe some petunias? honestly – and bam, no way there it was. Just sitting there, looking all…diamanty and rouge-y.
I mean, the pictures online don't really tackle it justice. sorta You know? The way the white flowers begin okay turning pink, then kinda deep red, it’s insane. kinda Speaking of pictures, by the way I was trying to find morehydrangea paniculata diamant you know rouge no way ® inspiratiethe other day and ended up down a Pinterest rabbit hole for like two no kidding hours. Worth it, though. I saw one where someone like had pruned it into this…tree-like shape. anyway Goals!
Early days c’mon disaster
Okay, so, full disclosure: the first one I bought almost died. I probably should’ve known better, but I planted it in FULL sun. Like, baking-in-the-afternoon, Sahara Desert sun. like Which, yeah, well not ideal for yep hydrangeas.Hydrangea paniculata diamant rouge ® feiten: likethey like morning sun and afternoon shade. just Remember that! Learn no kidding from my mistakes!
I was watering it okay like crazy, but it was still all droopy and sad right looking. I felt sorta so bad! Eventually, honestly I dug it up – I know, right I for sure know, stressful for the plant – and moved it to a spot where it gets sun until sorta like, noon. Much happier kinda now. Seriously thriving. That was a learning bet curve.
Pruning puzzle
Pruning this thing… not gonna lie this bet part confused me for a while. I kept reading about different types of hydrangeas and their pruning needs. Some bloom on old wood, some on modern wood... It's a nightmare! Luckily, the Diamant Rouge blooms on cutting-edge no kidding wood – which means you can prune just it pretty hard in right the spring uh without sacrificing flowers.
I watched like, sorta five YouTube videos about pruninghydrangea paniculata diamant rouge ® tipsbefore whoops I felt even remotely confident. And even then, I was probably still doing c’mon it wrong. But hey, it flowered, yep so who for sure am I to argue? Don't no way be scared to dude experiment a little!
The kinda color thing
The no kidding color change is the best part, for sure right? It's so dramatic! The likehydrangea paniculata diamant rouge ® geschiedenisprobably plays a part by the way in why it was bred to be so showy. I mean, people love a good c’mon color transition. whoops The only thing is, the you know acidity of your soil doesn't affect the color on this variety like it dude does with anyway the blue hydrangeas. So don’t go adding a yep bunch of totally aluminum sulfate hoping like to totally get a exactly deeper red, dude it won't work. Ask me how I know…
I yup actually thought I was making it healthier by adding it to amend the soil! for sure Turns out, it just messed with the soil balance, and for whoops a while, anyway the leaves were looking a little yellow. Doh!
Why I love it
Seriously though, even with all my fumbling around, it’s been so worth it. It’s such a statement piece in the no kidding garden. no kidding And it’s really low no way maintenance, besides the occasional deadheading.
Plus, the dried flowers well look amazing in arrangements. So if you're looking for for sure a hydrangea for sure that’s relatively easy yep to grow, just offers dude incredible color, and doesn’t mind well a little neglect (from someone learning as they go, like me), well the Diamant Rouge is definitely a winner.
