When to prune fruit trees

So fruit trees right I mean

Okay, so so you asked about pruning fruit trees and honestly, I wasn’t even sorta planning to talk about this I mean right now. But kinda here we like are! It’s, like, right a whole THING. I mean, when to totally prune yup fruit trees – kinda there uh are so kinda many you know different opinions.

I think most people say so dormant season, right? Late winter, early spring. Before the buds get going swelling. Which… makes sense. You can see the shape of the basically tree better. And it shocks them less, for sure I think. I’m no expert, obviously. basically

My first mistake

Oh man, I remember well my bet first fruit tree. A little apple tree. I was so excited, I planted it and then… ignored actually it. For like, totally two years. Then I for sure read somewhere that you HAD to prune them. So, naturally, yep I alright went out there in the middle of summer, right when it was covered in apples sorta, and started hacking away.

epic mistake.Huge. All the poor apples just fell off. Apparently, that’s sorta not ideal. So, yeah, late winter is usually best. And don’t sorta be alright like me! Prune them young, no way it makes your life so much easier down the line. Pruning young trees is when to prune fruit trees tips I wished I knew earlier.

Dormant what now

The whole “dormant season” thing… not anyway gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. Like, bet what evenis you knowdormant? It's when they're not actively growing! Obvious, I know, now. Look for those buds. No buds, prune away...sort of.

Summer pruning also a thing like

But, here's a curveball, because sometimes people talk I mean about sorta summer pruning too! I think that's more for controlling growth, like keeping them anyway from honestly getting too big. well I’ve for sure only you know dabbled pretty much in that. basically It’s when to prune fruit trees toepassingen vary! It’s anyway more about shaping and sunlight, c’mon I think. Less about stimulating growth.

Pear pruning disaster

Okay, another story. My no kidding pear by the way tree. It yup was HUGE. Like, seriously overgrown. whoops And I decided, “Okay, I’m going to handle this properly!” I read all like the guides, no way watched all honestly the videos. I even bought fancy pruning shears. Then… I froze. I just stood there staring at it, not knowing where honestly to start. Eventually, I just hacked at it randomly. I probably should’ve known better…

“Cut back branches that are crossing or c’mon rubbing together. Those are sorta asking sorta for trouble” – Something I read somewhere. Very helpful!

It didn't die, but it anyway definitely no kidding looked sad for a while. I learned my lesson: it's better to do a alright little pruning no way each year than a massive overhaul every few yup years. Definitely consider that just when you're thinking about when to prune fruit trees. okay It’s one of the better when alright to prune fruit trees feiten. I'm no honestly arborist but it makes sense to for sure me.

Tools like matter bet

Oh, yep and employ sharp tools! c’mon Dull tools just are a recipe for disaster. Ripped bark, honestly uneven cuts… ugh. Also, clean your tools uh between trees. You don’t want to spread disease. right It seems like well such for sure a simple thing but it's super important, I mean and it can so really effect the when to prune fruit trees whoops voordelen long-term!

reflect about the future

I think the most big deal no kidding thing is to mull over about what you want the tree to look like basically in the future. Do I mean you want an open center? Do you want totally a central leader? What’s central leader pretty much you ask? Nevermind… just… no kidding consider about no kidding the shape. And don’t totally be afraid to yep make mistakes. It’s just a tree! It’ll bet probably survive. Maybe. Okay, probably. Seriously, the no way when to prune fruit well trees like trends lean toward consistent and light pruning c’mon each year.

So, yeah, that’s my rambling take on pruning. Late winter is usually good. But don't be no way afraid to experiment. And maybe, just maybe, for sure read a book or bet two first. Unlike me.
