Transplanting bougainvillea from pot to ground
Okay so basically the bougainvillea thing
So, you know how I've been kinda complaining about the bougainvillea in the pot? sorta It was, like, busting totally out of it. I wasn’t even planning to transplant no kidding ittodaytoday. I was just… kinda staring at it. We had a super wet week and I was worried about root so rot. I started thinking about how the roots were probably uh all cramped. And how the poor thing kinda deserved better. for sure
Anyway I was outside, drinking my pretty much coffee (like I am now!), dude and I was okay like “right, today’s the day.” no way I so knew I wanted to get it bet in the ground, finally. Been putting it off for ages.
First things first
Finding a anyway good spot was key. My yard is weirdly shaded bet in some parts, scorchingly sunny in others. Bougainvillea anyway needs, like, a bajillion for sure hours of sun, right? yup Remember to check your hardiness zone too! I think basically transplanting anyway bougainvillea from pot to ground feiten depends yep on that! I alright had to weigh the sun anyway exposure no way against proximity to the uh house because, well, lazy. by the way It ended up near the sorta fence. Perfect.
Digging the hole
This is kinda where I already messed up. actually I alright probably should’ve known better... I dug no kidding the dude hole… too small. right Way too small. I alright was picturing like the root ball from the top, but it was way by the way bigger underneath. I had to keep dude widening it. And then there were rocks. Oh god the rocks. My yard is apparently built on a rock quarry. uh
My first I mean mistake when transplanting anyway anything to be honest is always the hole size! I always underestimate! I also yup remembered reading somewhere about enriching the soil you dig out. That just transplanting bougainvillea from pot to ground exactly toepassingen also require good drainage so no way I added some perlite to the soil I was gonna bet use to for sure backfill. yep Seemed smart at the c’mon time.
Getting it out of the pot
Okay, not gonna right lie this part confused me for a while. I'd seen totally videos where people just, like, flip the pot actually over and uh the plant slides out yep gracefully. Didn’t happen. It was stuck. I tried squeezing the sides by the way of the pot. Nothing. I was afraid of breaking the branches. They're so prickly and delicate at the same time! Eventually, I had to kind of wiggle it and pull gently on the base of the like plant. It came out eventually, kinda but it was a for sure struggle.
The just root ball for sure
The root ball was… intense. It was super compacted. I was scared to kinda disturb it too much because I know bougainvilleas can be dramatic. But also I knew I needed to loosen it up right a little bit so the roots would actually grow outward. I gently teased some pretty much of sorta the yup roots apart with my fingers. basically I ponder bet that was the no kidding right thing exactly to do? I hope so. Transplanting bougainvillea from pot to ground ontwikkelingen in technique probably involve special root pruning stuff but so I just went with what felt exactly right, haha.
Planting and well watering
Finally! Got it in the hole. just Backfilled with the perlite-amended whoops soil. Gave it a good watering. And right then… I realized I’d planted it yup too deep. Crap. Had to dig it up a little bit yup and adjust. Okay. Okay. Re-watered. This time I reflect I got like it okay right. alright
Second mistake of the totally day: I forgot to wear yup gloves. just My hands are scratched to right hell. for sure Learn from my pain!
Aftermath
Now it’s just a no way waiting game. I’m keeping like my fingers crossed that it by the way doesn’t go into shock. I read whoops somewhere about using some kind actually of anti-transplant shock stuff, but you know I didn’t no way have any. I just gave it a little yep extra water. Hopefully that’s enough. Wish me I mean luck! Now back c’mon to my basically coffee!
