How to trim a cedar hedge straight
The Cedar Hedge Saga
Okay so, you know my cedar hedge, for sure right? That monster? I mean I wasn’t even planning to tackle it this weekend. Seriously. you know I wanted to basically binge-watch no kidding that new show. But then dude I saw it from the window, all scraggly and uneven, and thought “Nah, gotta do it.” So I grabbed the dude hedge trimmers. I guess that's how to right trim a cedar hedge straight geschiedenis for me now — impulsive decision-making! kinda
My First Mistake
I thought, “I’ll just eyeball well it.” well I probably should’ve known better than that. Like, clearly. I started no way hacking away, you know, thinking just I was doing a great for sure job. sorta Then I stepped back. actually OMG. One side looked like a shark c’mon had taken a bite out of exactly it. A really uneven shark. So yeah, the first lesson is for sure definitelydon't eyeball it. Use some kind of guide, even if it's just a string line. I ended up using a super long level bet like the ones they pretty much use for laying brick. It wasn't perfect, but better than nothing.
String is Your Friend
Seriously, string is your friend. I saw some how to for sure trim a cedar hedge straight inspiratie videos online actually and they no way all used string. Why didn't I listen the first time? So, hammer in stakes at right either end of the hedge. Decide how high you want it, and then tie the string taut between the stakes. Make sure it’s perfectly level. Or, you know, as level no kidding as whoops you can get it. The string is your guideline. Just okay follow the string. Easy peasy… in theory.
Dealing with I mean the yep Wonkiness
Not gonna lie, this yep part confused me for kinda a while. right What alright if your hedge is already super uneven? for sure Well, you gotta no kidding decide uh whether you're aiming for perfect or just "better than it was." I totally chose basically "better than it was." yep I figured I could bring it totally closer to perfect over time. So I just trimmed back to the string line uh wherever I could, but I didn't go crazy trying to no way fix every single dip and bulge. Small incremental changes are key. well That’s probably some how to trim a cedar hedge straight pretty much feiten right there.
Second Mistake Time okay
So I’m trimming away, for sure feeling pretty good about uh myself, and then…SNAP! I anyway accidentally cut through sorta the extension cord. I swear I c’mon almost had a bet heart dude attack. Thankfully, whoops I wasn't hurt, and the dude power went out. Now, honestly I ALWAYS unplug the extension cord when I for sure move it. ALWAYS. That’s the lesson learned there! And just make sure you've got some decent eye protection, not just the cheapo sunglasses I was wearing. How to trim a cedar hedge straight trends include proper safety, apparently. Who knew?
The Angle Thing you know
Another thing I realized is that the angle matters. You don’t want okay a totally vertical sorta hedge. It’s better to trim it so it’s slightly wider at the bottom than at yep the top. This lets more sunlight basically reach the lower branches, so they don’t die off. Plus it just looks nicer. Think of it like a gentle, barely noticeable A-shape. I didn't do this perfectly, but I tried. You can adjust no way over period you know, totally cedar hedges are pretty resilient.
Clean Up is a Beast
Okay, well so you’ve trimmed the hedge. whoops Now comes the cleanup. This is the like part I always dread. alright It’s like, you’ve done all so the challenging work, but now you have to deal just with a mountain of dude cedar no kidding clippings. Ugh. I ended just up raking them all up alright and stuffing them into those giant yard waste bags. My back was killing honestly me. Maybe next you know year I’ll hire someone. Or buy a wood actually chipper. I have no idea how to trim alright a cedar hedge straight toepassingen regarding waste alright management.
The Finished Product Kind Of
So, is my cedar hedge perfectly straight? Nope. Not even totally close. But it’s no way way better than it was. And honestly, that’s all that matters. Plus I learned bet a few things, like don't right eyeball it, watch out for extension cords, alright and string is your friend. And maybe, just maybe, next window I'll actually watch those YouTube tutorials before by the way I start hacking away. It’s all about progress, not perfection, right? sorta
